Begin your challenge!
Standing on the start line doesn’t come so easy for some people. It can be quite daunting, especially if you are new to running. I can remember my first 5k. Thoughts were racing through my mind as I gathered with the other runners on the Victoria Embankment. Do I look stupid in these running shorts? What if I trip and fall? Or what if I hold people up? What if I’m last??? That’s why Virtual Runner is perfect.
Virtual Runner is an online running race community that allows you to compete in a race at a time and place to suit you. All you have to do is pick your challenge, followed by your time and place to get your hands on a spectacular medal! You could run in the afternoon with friends at the local park, or on the treadmill by yourself in the gym, or even round the block multiple times whilst you exercise the dog! The choice is yours! Virtual Runner can put your mind at ease as a beginner as you don’t need to worry about looking daft or coming last. It’s also great for regular runners as you can compete in a challenge when it fits in with your busy schedule.
How to claim your medal
Once you’ve completed your chosen challenge, all you have to do is evidence your time and distance to claim your medal. To do this you will need to record your run on a fitness watch (such as a Garmin), log it on a fitness app (such as Strava) or take a photograph of the treadmill screen. You can then send a quick picture to Virtual Runner, who will add you to the results list and send you your very own medal to show off to your mates! Easy!
There’s another side to Virtual Runner too which makes it even better. Virtual Runner also raises money for Charity through its entry fees which makes taking on that challenge that little bit extra special. With this in mind, we have teamed up with Broxtowe Borough Council and Virtual Runner to bring you the Night Owler this March. The Night Owler is a 5K, 10k or Half Marathon walk/run to raise money for Broxtowe Borough Council’s Mayor’s Charity; Prostate Cancer UK. The challenge will run throughout March and is open for entry now! The challenge is suitable for all ages and abilities and you can make the route as tough or simple as you like! You could be a true night owl and head out in the dark with friends! Make sure you take your head torch if you do!
