Last seen in September’s blog post, we’ve been keeping an eye on our Eligible Athlete, Nick Wild who last year played for the England under-16s basketball team. Breaking news from Basketball England is that he’s now been selected to play for England in the under-18s age group, which is no mean feat as he’s still only 16. He will be travelling to Dundee in April to compete in the Four Nations tournament playing the home countries and Ireland.
At a playing height of 6’11”, Nick is an intimidating defender and is often seen hanging from the rim after slam dunking the ball in the basket! Nick has already attended a GB under-18s Combine earlier this year and will be looking to further impress the GB selectors whilst going into battle for England.
Currently at the Derby College Trailblazers Academy, Nick is competing in the Elite Academy Basketball League, the highest college league in England. The Derby Trailblazers under-18s club side compete in the National Basketball League Premier Division and most recently made it to the Cup Final played at the impressive National Basketball Performance Centre, Manchester.
We are delighted that Nick is utilising Lleisure as an eligible athlete membership. Due to the extent of Nick’s training with college he regularly uses the Bramcote Leisure Centre Spa and Sauna for recovery which has been of great benefit to his performance.
Nick is already starting to get interest from America, Nick will be firmly keeping his feet on the ground for now, developing and improving his game. Who knows where this journey will lead, but for sure, Nick has his sights set on becoming a professional basketball player. Lleisure wish him all the best as he proudly pulls on his England vest in April.
