We all know that having a baby is hard work. The sleepless nights, the worry and the never ending list of things to do. All too often, the parents get moved further and further down the list, until they are eventually at the bottom of the pile. Well, we are offering you the chance to make a bit of time for yourself. To get some gentle exercise, chat with other parents and enjoy being outdoors at our buggy walks.
What is a buggy walk?
It is an opportunity for parents and carers of young children to go for a walk and a chat. Babies and toddlers are welcome in pushchairs or carriers and dogs are welcome on short leads.
Lead by a trained walk leader, our walks take in the beautiful surroundings of Attenborough Nature Reserve. The walks usually take around 45 minutes, followed by a chance to carry on the chat in the cafe afterwards.
What are the benefits?
Not only is the exercise great for your body, but it works wonders for your mind too. Especially when you meet new people and make new friends. There’s also evidence to suggest being outside in nature works magic for your health and wellbeing.
Who is it for?
Anybody who cares for a baby or young child. Mums, dads, carers and grandparents are all welcome. Just come along with the baby and enjoy a nice walk around the nature reserve. The walk isn’t too strenuous and there are no steep hills. We do ask that you are able to walk 3k and have been given the go ahead to exercise my a medical professional, if appropriate.
When can you join us?
Buggy Walks will run on the second Monday of every month, starting on 11th April 2022. We will meet at 10:30am at the picnic benches outside the visitor centre.
What do I need to bring?
Ensure you’re wearing sensible footwear and weather appropriate clothing. It can get muddy during wet weather and can be quite exposed during hot weather, so bring supplies accordingly.
Bring anything your baby might need throughout the morning; toys, snacks, nappies etc. There are baby changing facilities in the nature centre but not throughout the walk.
If you’re coming by car, you’ll need £3 for all day parking, payable by cash or card. Pay at the machines when you’re ready to leave.
